Taking a Garments Fashion and Design Course
If you are interested in a career in fashion, you should consider a garments fashion and design course. This course explores the fundamentals of fashion design and focuses on the technical aspects of fashion fabrication. Students explore the different types of fabrics and explore the design and performance properties of each. Students will also learn about cost/price relationships and the importance of aesthetics in fashion design. In addition to creating fashionable garments, students will learn how to make intimate apparel and specialized machinery.
A clothing design and manufacturing course will allow you to create custom-made clothes for women. This can include a variety of clothing styles such as day dresses, evening dresses, business attire, trousseau, sportswear, and lingerie. In addition, students will learn how to create custom-made women’s clothing for a variety of occasions, such as special occasions, and can design a bespoke dress for a special occasion.
The first semester of this course is comprised of technical classes, such as Fashion 101. Students will learn about apparel manufacturing and industry terminology. Students will also learn about historical costumes and apply their knowledge to modern fashion design construction. The second semester of the course focuses on computer-aided design, with students learning how to manipulate patterns on a half-scale sloper. Fashion 105 and 106 require students to create other styles within a time period, such as a prom dress or evening gown.
Applicants for Fashion Designing courses must have completed 10+2 in any discipline. Oftentimes, students are required to take an entrance exam. However, many Indian institutes choose applicants based on their merit list. Other criteria for applying include language proficiency, SOP, and LORs. You should also know what the course entails before applying. In short, take the time to learn the basics. Then, practice until you have perfected your skills.
